Reporting to the Associate Dean, Centre for Academic Innovation, you will work as an active member of program development and redevelopment teams, helping ensure new and revised curriculum reflects Bow Valley College’s Iikaakiimaat Indigenous Framework, Indigenous ways of knowing and learning, and principles of culturally responsive curriculum development.
You will contribute throughout the program development lifecycle, partnering with Learning Design Consultants, program leaders, faculty, subject matter experts, Indigenous partners, community representatives, and industry practitioners. Through consultation, co-design, coaching and thoughtful challenge, you will help teams translate framework principles into meaningful curriculum decisions, assessments, learning experiences and program structures.
Beyond program development, you may lead or contribute to broader College initiatives related to Indigenization, decolonization, teaching and learning, curriculum, institutional frameworks, professional learning, tools and resources, and strategic priorities.
Curriculum Indigenization & Decolonization Contribute across discovery, design, development, review, implementation and quality assurance. You will apply the principles and goals of the Iikaakiimaat Indigenous Framework throughout the curriculum development process and help program teams turn those principles into tangible decisions and learning experiences.
Working collaboratively with faculty, program leaders, Learning Design Consultants, subject matter experts, Indigenous partners, community representatives and industry practitioners, you will: • Contribute to competency profiles, learning outcomes, assessments, learning experiences, instructional approaches and program structures.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen Indigenization and decolonization within curriculum and provide clear recommendations where approaches or materials do not adequately reflect the Framework.
• Facilitate co-design sessions, consultations and collaborative working meetings.
• Identify and engage appropriate Indigenous, community, industry and sector expertise to inform program discovery, curriculum development, co-design and validation.
• Conduct or contribute to research, environmental scans, labour-market analysis, occupational analysis and other discovery activities that inform curriculum and program development.
• Support implementation and quality assurance of new and revised curriculum to ensure alignment with institutional frameworks, program requirements and intended learning outcomes.
A key part of the role is building and maintaining respectful, reciprocal relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, Knowledge Holders, Elders, sector partners and other external stakeholders who contribute to curriculum and program development.
College-wide Initiatives & Professional Learning In consultation and coordination with the Associate Dean and other appropriate stakeholders, you will contribute your expertise beyond individual program development projects. This may include leading or participating in College-wide initiatives, working groups and strategic projects related to Indigenization, decolonization, curriculum, teaching and learning.
You will also contribute to the ongoing implementation, evaluation and evolution of the Iikaakiimaat Indigenous Framework and related institutional practices. This includes developing practical tools, resources, exemplars, guidance and processes that help College employees apply Indigenous perspectives and the Framework meaningfully within their work.
Capacity Building & Knowledge Sharing Build institutional capacity by developing and facilitating professional learning for faculty, academic leaders, Learning Design Consultants and other College employees. Topics may include Indigenization, decolonization, Indigenous ways of knowing and learning, culturally responsive curriculum and the application of the Iikaakiimaat Indigenous Framework.
You will also coach and support faculty, program teams and colleagues as they move from awareness of Indigenization and decolonization principles toward practical application. Staying current with emerging research, practices, community perspectives and developments in Indigenous education, curriculum Indigenization and decolonization, adult learning and program development will be an important part of your work.
What Sets You Apart You bring strong expertise in curriculum development, learning design, and the application of Indigenization and decolonization principles within educational environments. You understand how Indigenous ways of knowing and learning can meaningfully inform curriculum, assessment, learning experiences and program design, and can translate these principles into practical recommendations and outcomes.
You are a skilled facilitator, collaborator and relationship builder who can work effectively with faculty, academic leaders, subject matter experts, Indigenous partners, Knowledge Holders, Elders, community representatives and industry practitioners. You approach co-design and consultation with respect, openness and cultural responsiveness, and are comfortable asking thoughtful questions, challenging assumptions and supporting teams through complex curriculum conversations.
You also bring the ability to lead initiatives, facilitate professional learning and build capacity across an institution. You are curious and reflective, stay informed about emerging research and community perspectives, and can develop practical tools, resources and guidance that help others move from understanding principles to applying them in meaningful ways.
